Finding Sleep in a Grocery Store
Do you ever struggle to get a good night’s sleep? Do your children? A lack of sleep has many problematic outcomes ranging from a craving for foods higher in fat and sugar to increased suicide in teens. However, a study led by researchers at the University of Chicago Medicine and Columbia University offers a way to improve your sleep as early as tonight…and you can find that sleep in the grocery store.
No, you don’t have to go to the grocery store to sleep. But you can find what you need to enhance your sleep quality at the grocery store. Specifically, this study found that the participants who consumed the recommended amounts of fruits and vegetables during the day experienced a deeper, more uninterrupted sleep the same night. In fact, they experienced a 16% improvement in sleep quality. This was also true for those who consumed more healthy carbohydrates.
That’s a pretty simple way to enhance your family’s sleep. Simply eat a diet rich in complex carbohydrates, fruits, and vegetables. So, pick up some green beans, cauliflower, and broccoli. Don’t forget the apples, grapes, and oranges as well. While you’re at it, enjoy some peanut butter on whole grain toast. You might just find that your family wakes up the next morning feeling more refreshed and in a better mood because they had a good night’s sleep.
